Listed below are the tour package details, we reserve the right to make changes to the timings and content of the packages if circumstances demand it, but we will always endeavour to make up for any changes with alternative and equally interesting places to visit. Transport to and from the places of interest is included in our Tour prices.

Dinner is not included in the Tour price but can be booked separately, we can also recommend local pubs and restaurants, some you will need to book in advance.

TOUR DETAILS

Our Heritage Tour starts with an after-dinner presentation and discussion:

 

20:00      High Sprites, Ghosts and Legends:- An illustrated presentation revealing some of the more lurid stories and legends of the Amber Shorelands, together with an insight into the fascinating heritage of the area where all too often fact is stranger than fiction.

 

NEXT DAY

08:15     A leisurely Norfolk breakfast

09:00     A Guided Tour of The Amber Shorelands to include:-

                Ingham Church and Priory ruins-- the location of the Monk's Dance and The Wandering Knights.

                Morning coffee at the Hill House Pub-- a favourite watering hole of Jonathan Balls and no lesser person than the creator of Mr Sherlock Holmes.

               Happisburgh and its Church-- the home village of the Happisburgh Poisoner, the Headless Smuggler and on a more sobering note the graveyard where any number of unfortunate seamen, including many of Nelson's men, are laid to rest. Climb the tower for magnificent sea views.

13:00     Return to Willow Farm Barn-- via local farm shops and other gastro-suppliers.

20:00     The Amber Shorelands Heritage and Wildlife:- An illustrated introduction to the fascinating history and heritage of East Norfolk.

 

NEXT DAY

08:15     A leisurely Norfolk breakfast

09:00     A Guided Tour of The Amber Shorelands to include:-

                A visit to Horsey Drainage Mill-- with magnificent views over Horsey Mere and the coastal marshlands.Entry fees included in our price.                 The Horsey Seal Colony-- a bracing beach walk and opportunity for fossil collecting.

               Waxham Great Barn-- the largest Tudor threshing barn in Norfolk with morning coffee included.

               St. Margaret's Church, Sea Palling-- giving an insight into the disastrous floods which assaulted the village in January 1953.

12:00     A guided tour of Happisburgh and it's church-- tracing its challenging maritime history, the coastal processes which are daily re-shaping the village and the astonishing archeological discoveries which have rocked the scientific world.

13:00     Return to Willow Farm Barn-- via local farm shops and other gastro-suppliers.

 

HERITAGE  AND WILDLIFE

HIDDEN BROADLAND HERITAGE

Our Heritage Tour starts with an after-dinner presentation and discussion:

 

20:00     Broadland Heritage:- An illustrated presentation revealing how the Norfolk Broads were first recognised as medieval peat cuttings, with an overview of the heritage of the Broadlands today.

 

NEXT DAY

08:15     A leisurely Norfolk breakfast

09:00     A Guided Tour of the lesser known Broadland Heritage Centres to include:-

               How Hill-- on the Ant river, a stroll through the parkland of this Broadland Conservation Area including a peek into Toad Hole Cottage, a former marshman's residence displaying the techniques and equipement of a now long lost way of life.

              Ludham Staithe-- a delightful Broadland location including a guided tour of Hunter's Yard, a traditional Broads boat-building and yacht hire centre first established in the 1930's. Entry fee included and coffee provided.

              St.Benet's Abbey-- although now ruined this remote and atmospheric Benedictine Abbey, completely surrounded by water, was founded by the Anglo-Saxons and is one of the few religious houses which Henry VIII failed to extinguish.

13:00    Return to Willow Farm Barn-- via local farm shops and other gastro-suppliers.

MARITIME HERITAGE

 

Tour C       Cost £22.50 per person

Our Heritage Tour starts with an after-dinner presentation and discussion:

 

20:00     The Raging Sea:- An illustrated presentation giving an introduction to the fascinating maritime history and heritage of East Norfolk.

 

NEXT DAY

08:15     A leisurely Norfolk breakfast

09:00     A Guided Tour of The Amber Shorelands to include:-

                The iconic Happisburgh Lighthouse-- with magnificent sea views from the lantern. Entry fees included in our price.

                The Hill House Pub-- to discover its curious Sherlock Holmes connection, including morning coffee.

                Happisburgh Church with an overview of its Nelson connections.

                Mundesley Maritime Museum and Coastwatch Station. (Not available Saturdays, in which case we shall visit the Happisburgh Coastwatch Station.)

13:00     Return to Willow Farm Barn-- via local farm shops and other gastro-suppliers.
